Bukahara have been pursuing their own sound tirelessly, vibrating between folk, gypsy, swing, and pop with northern African influences. In the past decade, there has hardly been a renowned festival for alternative music in Europe where these four multi-instrumentalists haven’t left the crowd ecstatic: Juicy Beats, Summer Jam, Fusion Festival, Burg Herzberg – all over the continent, the “Arabic Balkans sound” has guaranteed sweaty celebrations and lasting impressions. The new album Canaries in a Coal Mine underscores the band’s energetic optimism like none of the previous records, both musically and in its themes. When they visit Hamburg, we’re in for intercultural flower power with a modern soul.
